Together with 11 other organizations and collectives, we have been forming a Human Rights Coalition since January 2025. Specifically, these organizations are: Amnesty International Slovensko, Rómske advokačné a výskumné stredisko, eduRoma, Saplinq, Inokraj, Komunitnú nadáciu Zdravé mesto, kolektív neon, Intymyta, Možnosť voľby, Literárna bašta, Diera do sveta a Záhrada – Centrum nezávislej kultúry.
The Coalition’s values are based on universal human rights, gender equality, anti-racism, and intersectionality. The Coalition’s goal is to build a long-term, strong, and sustainable alliance of organizations and collectives that will primarily serve to jointly and effectively defend human rights for all.

Public statements and other decisions of the Human Rights Coalition are adopted by the Executive Coalition Committee, which is composed of representatives of all member organizations (currently 12 members).

UN experts warn against constitutional amendment
4 SEPTEMBER 2025
UN experts have assessed the proposed amendment to the Slovak constitution. They unequivocally confirmed that the amendment is not in line with international human rights standards and are calling on the Parliament of the Slovak Republic to reconsider the adoption of the constitutional changes. The assessment confirms what several human rights organizations have been warning about for a long time: the current attempts to amend the constitution represent a frontal attack on the human rights and dignity of all people in Slovakia.
Stop the discriminatory constitutional changes
1 SEPTEMBER 2025
The Human Rights Coalition described the proposed changes to the Slovak Constitution as an unprecedented attack on human rights in front of the Constitutional Court in Košice today. According to the coalition this presents an attempt by those in power to abuse the Constitution in order to enforce an anti-human rights ideological agenda and trample on the rights and dignity of people in Slovakia. Symbolically, on the Constitution Day the coalition therefore publicly appeals and demands that the amendment is stopped.
We call on members of parliament to vote against resolutions No. 843 and 845
11 JUNE 2025
On behalf of the Human Rights Coalition, we have addressed the members of the National Council of the Slovak Republic with an urgent call to reject the draft resolutions of the KÚ and KDH party members (prints No. 843 and 845) concerning the European Citizens‘ Initiative „My vote, my choice“.
Stop this proposal, do not vote for it!
11 JUNE 2025
The National Council of the Slovak Republic will soon face one of the most serious decisions in the history of the independent republic. The proposed amendment to the Constitution of the Slovak Republic is not just another legislative initiative – it is an attempt to change the character of our state.
We reject the law against non-governmental organizations
9 APRIL 2025
Yesterday we stood in solidarity at a press conference held by the Platform for Democracy on the law against non-governmental organizations. Human Rights Coalition categorically rejects this proposal and call on members of the National Council of the Slovak Republic to reject it, including any amendments. This law has one goal only: to silence and persecute criticism, stigmatize financial support, obstruct assistance, and dismantle civil society.
Denying children a dignified life must end
8 APRIL 2025
April 8 is International Roma Day. Roma men and women in Slovakia are still fighting for their human rights, dignity, and equality. They face discrimination, racism and prejudice. Slovakia’s human rights debt to Roma men and women is one of the largest and most ignored.
We condemn the attacks on SNSĽP and Via Iuris
3 APRIL 2025
Non-profit organizations and collectives consider Erik Kaliňák’s statements towards Sylvia Porubänová, director of the Slovak National Center for Human Rights (SNSĽP), and the statements made by the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic towards Via Iuris to be unacceptable attacks on an important independent institution and a non-governmental organization that play a key role in defending human rights, the rule of law, and civil society.
The Council of the Government of the Slovak Republic for Human Rights convened yesterday
25 MARCH 2025
Yesterday, the Council of the Government of the Slovak Republic for Human Rights, of which we are a member, met. The Council is an advisory body. Any material that the government wishes to approve and that concerns human rights must first be submitted to the Council. However, this has not been the case with many proposals, which is in violation of legislative rules and the principles of participatory and transparent governance.
International Women’s Day 2025
7 MARCH 2025
International Women’s Day is a reminder that Slovakia urgently needs systemic solutions to protect the rights of women and girls. Gender-based and sexual violence remain widespread, yet the state has failed to implement long-prepared reforms, such as a legal definition of rape based on lack of consent. Women also continue to face barriers in accessing housing, healthcare, and reproductive rights, with Slovakia among the worst-ranked countries in Europe for access to safe abortion services. These restrictions push many into poverty and unsafe conditions, denying them control over their own bodies and lives.
Anniversary of Russia’s invasion to Ukraine
24 FEBRUARY 2025
Three years have passed since the beginning of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, during which we have witnessed heinous war crimes and blatant violations of international law by the Russian Federation. As a result of this aggression, the people of Ukraine are facing killings, forced eviction, displacement, and destruction of key infrastructure, which leads to serious violations of their human rights.
We can build the Human Rights Coalition thanks to support from Civitates.
